“Butterfly” House in Cerrillos, NM featured on HGTV

This 2,200 square foot home is a contemporary interpretation of a ranch house, which is common throughout the southwest. The home is inspired by the ranch land and mining towns that are nearby. The plan wraps a central courtyard with the deep porches defined by the projecting shed roofs. The playful assembly of weathered materials and forms creates a “found object” appearance. However, the high attention to detail & composition belies the fact that this architecture is an outstanding example of contemporary regionalism.
